Great question. Tough to answer.
In the sense of living and breathing and working and playing.
As a reference, Johannesburg is 9 hours ahead of us here: so -- right now it's 9:00 p.m. -- there it is 5:00 a.m. If I want to call at 4:00 p.m. when I get off work, it will be midnight here...etc.

I don't always take time to post a comment because sometimes I'm just too busy but I want you to know that I love reading up on your adventure. You sound like me 20 years ago! Although different in many ways, my years of working for Canada World Youth took me around the world and into all sorts of adventures. I treasure those memories, when I find a minute to re-live them! Enjoy every moment and know that even when things are not what you thought they'd be, they will still be an adventure and lessons learned!
