One night this Christmas, a girlfriend accompanied me to Winnipeg on a business trip. We had a few drinks in the cozy Elephant & Castle where I started to describe to her how I felt very overwhelmed and confused about where my life was going. I began to explain that I truly felt my special niche in life was connecting people. Connecting organizations. Or connecting ideas. When I lived in the city, I often had a very random group of individual friends over that would all get together and discover friendships. I hear one of my girlfriends is going vegan and then another tells me about her raw diet, and I ensure they talk. I have even had a couple of friends that I introduced get married! And I always strive day-to-day to encourage my clients to reach out to their customers and connect in transparent, relevant ways.
I remember the Tipping Point and reading about connectors. And then this morning I wake up to two friends, one whom sent me an article on connectors and one whom sent me a motivational video in a very different light, forcing me to think outside the box.
In this article about becoming a connector, the woman moved from Iran to Paris to Northern California and was forced to "sink or swim." I moved seven times by the time I was 10. I think that might have played a small role in why I am the way I am?!
I want to match the people in the world with el dinero to the people in the world who need sustainable help the most.
I need a venue to do that in. Such as a community cafe, a bookstore or an office in a city where people care.
Here's the article on forgetting networking and focusing on connecting - http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/222707
And here's the video I was sent. I know - Schwarzenegger? But just shut up, watch it and I bet you'll be a tiny bit moved if you can get outside your box.
