...when our hearts are full we need much less

  • Why the Hope?

The defining moment in my life that shifted the way I was thinking...and brought me to ubuntu.

  • Who am I?

    Great question. Tough to answer.

  • What I do

In the sense of living and breathing and working and playing.

Idex started a small experiment with some volunteers from one European country in 2002 helping at a project for a community of nomadic blacksmiths in the province of Rajasthan. The project and the 8 volunteers, without any prior experience, produced incredible results in terms of the community's engagement in the project and its sustainability. This is to believe in the power of cooperation between communities, grass root organisations and volunteers, both national and international to create waves of positive change. This belief got IDEX established in 2003, and grow from a single project to over 20 projects and hundreds of volunteers. We are grateful to GVN for their incredible support in helping us reach out to a number of needy communities with their encouragement and helping us find enthusiastic volunteers like yourself.

Bringing about social development requires change in habits, mindsets and outlooks of people which is a continuous process that requires diligence and perseverance. With your help, volunteers in the past and those who will come to assist us in the future, we at Idex, hope to produce benefits for the communities we will serve together. We are sure that this will bring gratification and a host of memorable experiences, interactions, and friendships for you that may just change the way you think about the world.

Volunteering in India can be filled with challenges; in fact, that’s one of its attractions. As challenges are themselves part of the experience, overcoming them will provide you with a sense of accomplishment. In addition to your own resources, also remember that at all time our staff, as well as other volunteers, will be there to support you. We will work hard to ensure that your volunteer placement isn’t just about struggle and success. Though you will be working in low-resource communities, we will provide you with clean, comfortable accommodation and healthy and hygienic food. Our hope is that these basic levels of comfort will help make your volunteer experience more fruitful, keeping things interesting and making sure you stay energized for work.
