...when our hearts are full we need much less

  • Why the Hope?

The defining moment in my life that shifted the way I was thinking...and brought me to ubuntu.

  • Who am I?

    Great question. Tough to answer.

  • What I do

In the sense of living and breathing and working and playing.

For the last couple of months I have been going by to visit an 89-year old lady in Virden, teaching her about this thing she calls, "The Internet."

In return, unknown I'm sure to her, she is teaching me about this thing called, "Life."

Everytime I go there, she's vivacious, friendly & ready to learn. She offers donations to my Habitat families and always has something to give and stories to tell. The last couple times I've been there, we have learned email (which she can send & receive now), the Weather Network and News sites. There's always a paper & pen at hand to write notes, even if they're simply, "Turn on computer. Wait." or "You can't break the Internet" (as she used to always close it down right away as she'd get too apprehensive that she was going to break something).

Yesterday, we were learning to type. I can say it's been a LONG time since I've sat at a keyboard and thought about where your fingers rest; however, we found a great program to try. You had to get 90% accuracy to pass and -- she had 82%, 87% and 89%!! It was more exciting than a sports game, watching her pound out fff jjj ffj jjf. She even went one whole row without a single error. I was like a proud mama.

    Lessons?

    • Never be afraid to laugh at yourself.
    • You're never too old to try.
    • It's never too late to try.
    • Idle hands = Idle mind
    • When you give (whether it's time, money or effort) you actually do receive more
I'm very grateful for her & these lessons. It's an inspiration and cheers me up every time I go.
