I'm determined to grow my own sprouts this winter. So I've been cruising the Internet, trying to battle through all the details on the best way / most delicious way / most efficient way etc. I came across this project that developed out of a thesis project. Basically, Urban Sprouts partners with schools to offer garden based education during science or elective classes. They offer programs like Farmers in Residence that gives families their own plot and teaches them how to grow their own food there. The best part? It's happening in low-income, urban schools where families need it the most.
Why are we not teaching these sustainable skills in every school when every single person in the world needs them, even more than they need math or art or law? They need to grow their own food and nourish their body properly. If every single person in the world could do this, then the other problems of the world seem so little. Environmental problems would become smaller. With a satisfied belly and the energy that comes from proper care, what couldn't we accomplish as humans?

A new era is here: we can no longer depend on cheap food made from fossil fuels. It’s up to us, now, to push this movement over the edge: the movement to make fresh, healthy, and locally-grown food a reality for all of our families and our communities.
Woah. I feel like the call is out there.
