Dear friends,
Many of you have written to the Elders expressing great concern about the terrible fighting that has caused so much suffering to millions of people in Côte d'Ivoire.
The Elders have condemned the violence and human rights violations that took place after the presidential elections.
As Desmond Tutu and Graça Machel observed: “We have too often witnessed what happens when leaders fail to uphold and protect human rights... Africa's leaders must understand they are the servants, not the masters, of their people.”
This Sunday, Kofi Annan, Mary Robinson and Desmond Tutu will bring a message of healing and reconciliation to Cote d'Ivoire's leaders and people.
