Usually you can see the hills in the distance, or at least past our road to Old Vernon Rd. Not today. |
I arrived at the airport to find out they were still taking people checking in, luckily. However, there was a plane that slid off the runway and "crashed" leaving a big mess to be cleaned up. Combined with the fog and snow, it was looking like the majority of the flights were to be cancelled. Go through security anyways, she said. So after unloading all of my stuff, waiting through security and loading myself back up again, I walked in to find out that my flight was not only delayed, but cancelled altogether. Off I went, back through to the baggage claim and collected the bag that I just dropped off a mere twenty minutes earlier.
After waiting for an hour on hold with the Cancellation department, I had two options. One was to go tonight at 5:45...transfer in Vancouver...and not arrive to Saskatoon until midnight. Tomorrow I could leave at 2:50 and get in at 8:30 - making me miss two of the four scheduled tradeshow days. No great choices, so I chose option one.
Luckily, my roommate was nice enough to come get me so at least I didn't have to sit at the airport all day. But his car couldn't make it up the big hill BEFORE our big driveway and I found myself walking with all my luggage up two huge hills, huffing and puffing and cursing and laughing. What a f@%*ing marvelous Monday morning.
A moment later, my girlfriend from down the road messaged, asking if I wanted to go crazy carpeting. You see, I live on a property with a dog boarding kennel and daycare and there is four acres of land up behind us with the perfect sledding hills. I thought, WHY NOT. Today can't get any crazier...so off we go, all bundled up, with 20 dogs barking and jumping around us.
The hills were slick and there was SO much snow...there were dog fights and dogs barking and licking and jumping all over us...and many face washes and falling...but oh me oh my it was refreshing. On what could've been the most horrible day, we turned it into a day to laugh at ourselves and just be ridiculous.
I guess the moral of the story is...when life hands you a cancelled flight, make a day of it. Go sledding!
